Introducing

Our

Philosophy

At Karate Kidz we believe that Karate is for more than just self-defense. It’s for life and all of life’s pursuits. Through rigorous, whole body exercise it promotes good health and physical fitness. The strength, speed, agility, flexibility, and precision of motion it develops enhances the athleticism of it’s practitioners, improving their performance across the spectrum of sports, athletics, and all other ways the body is used to achieve a desired outcome. Of equal importance as physical fitness to the practice of Karate is mental fitness. Focus, perseverance, discipline, patience, attention to detail: from the sciences to the arts, from work to recreation, the mental traits fostered by the practice of Karate are greatly beneficial in all walks of life.

Our

Curriculum

The foundational core of Karate Kidz is Shorin-ryu, one of the oldest traditional Okinawan Karate styles and a highly effective system of self- defense. Emphasizing speed and efficiency of movement to generate the maximum amount of power with a minimal expenditure of energy through a deep understanding of biomechanics, Shorin-ryu is particularly well suited to our mission of developing bodies that excel in a wide variety of physical scenarios while ensuring a highly developed ability to defend oneself when forced to. Supplementing the traditional practices of Shorin-ryu are a broad range of modern stretches, exercises, and agility drills to further enhance our students’ physical capabilities, all mixed with a healthy dose of fun to help our young karatekas stay engaged.

Sensei

Jim

Karate Kidz is owned and operated by Sensei Jim McTeigue. A former “karate kid” himself, Sensei Jim began studying martial arts at the age of five. He has continued his martial arts journey throughout the years with two decades of formal training across five different styles. A multi-sport athlete in his youth with experience in football, baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis, and golf, he has years of experience applying the principles of applied body motion derived from martial arts to various other athletic pursuits. As a parent, nothing brings him greater joy than passing on what he’s learned to the next generations.
